The Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) is an intensive, collaborative learning model that uses video-recorded micro-teaching and peer feedback sessions to support participants’ teaching reflection and growth in a small group setting. The ISW encourages examination of teaching practices with feedback focused on the learning process rather than on the specific content of the lesson. At the same time, participants are able to work on discipline-specific teaching. Small groups come together daily in plenary sessions which feature such themes as: diverse learners, collaborative learning, motivation and feedback models.

By the end of ISW, participants will be better able to…

  • apply a reflective approach to their instructional practice
  • experiment with participatory, learner-centered teaching
  • give, receive, and use feedback to improve teaching and learning
  • value diversity in peers’ approaches to learning and teaching
